Paratiro: a pioneering initiative for Greece
The creation of PARATIRO is an initiative of the Association for the Protection and Care of Wildlife – ANIMA that started in October 2014 with the financial support of the EEA Financial Mechanism for Greece, through the “We are all Citizens” Programme, managed by the Bodossaki Foundation.
Initially, the operation of the PARATIRO online platform was of a pilot nature. Its reception by management agency and forestry staff, nature observers, field workers and ordinary citizens was enthusiastic. They found it a very useful tool for both science and policy making and their suggestions for improving its operation were valuable. In particular, they pointed out a number of necessary modifications and further actions to upgrade the website, create a mobile app and further publicise the project to citizens.
The upgrade and communication of the online platform of PARATIRO was undertaken by SciCo in November 2017 and is being implemented in collaboration with ANIMA with the financial support of the Green Fund, under the “Natural Environment & Innovative Actions” Programme.
The new website is more user-friendly for users of all ages and offers new features.
Also, a new app for mobile phones and tablets has been created!
