Paratiro: a pioneering initiative for Greece
The creation of PARATIRO is an initiative of ANIMA – Hellenic Wildlife Care Association that started in October 2014 with the financial support of the EEA Funding Mechanism for Greece, through the “We are all Citizens” Programme, managed by the Bodossaki Foundation.
Initially, the PARATIRO online platform was a pilot project. Its reception by staff of management institutions and forestry departments, nature observers, field workers and ordinary citizens was enthusiastic. They found it a very useful tool both for science and policy making and their suggestions for improving its operation were valuable. In particular, they pointed out a number of necessary modifications and further actions to upgrade the website, create a mobile app and further promote the project to citizens.
The upgrading and promotion of the online platform of PARATIRO was undertaken by SciCo in November 2017 and is implemented in collaboration with ANIMA, with the financial support of the Green Fund, as a part of the “Natural Environment & Innovative Actions” Programme.
The new website is more user-friendly, it is addressed to users of all ages and has new features.
